Make Baking Easier with a Silicone Baking Mat
Sometimes the hardest part of baking is getting the baked goods off the pan without breaking them into pieces. You can grease and flour the pans and still end up having problems from time to time. Besides, this makes baking a bit more time consuming. One great solution to this problem is to use a silicone baking mat.
Silicone baking mats such as those offered by Silpat make the whole process of baking much easier. Once you take them out of the oven the baked goods will just slide right off the mat rather than sticking. Plus, the mat cools off much faster than the pan, so you have less of a chance of burning yourself. The pan will still be hot, but at least the top side of it will not be.
You can get these mats in a number of different sizes. These include 11 5/8 by 16 1/2 inches, 11 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches, 10 by 15 inches, 16 3/8 by 11 5/8 inches, 9 by 12 inches, and 11 x 17 inches, just to name a few. The wide variety of available sizes means that you will be likely to find a baking mat to fit whatever pan you might need it for, from cookie sheets to jelly roll pans to cake pans.
The mats made by Silpat can be a bit expensive, but some of the other manufacturers offer their mats at slightly lower prices. Check out those offered by Fox Run, Kitchen Aid, Norpro, Wilton, Progressive, Silicone Solutions, and World Cuisine to see which might have the best prices on the size of mat that you are interested in purchasing. Most mats of this type range in price from $10 to $20, depending on the size and the manufacturer.
Once you try using a silicone baking mat you will find that baking is much more appealing since you don’t have to deal with all the greasing and flouring and still have troubles getting your goodies out of the pans. These are especially useful if you bake for big events or bake sales where you want your baked goods to come out looking perfect.
